Vacation.com cover a network of 5,100 travel agents across the US and Canada.  We went to find out if they lived up to their claims of better deals and enhanced vacation packages.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

You can search by type of trip (cruise, tours, air only) as well as location, dates and length of trip.  Once the results come through there is a filter to further sort by date, price, top picks etc.

There is also a detailed search facility where you can enter the type of activities you are looking for or a travel company you wish to use.  The search results can be compared one against the other.
The vacation search tool works a treat but the home page lacks a menu.  You can’t for example access the FAQ or Contact Us from here which is a little unhelpful.

Why is it different to other vacation package sites? What features or tools make this site stand out. We graded on innovation..

Once you have your list of online vacation packages you can filter by price per night or trip price, bringing all the bargains to the top of the pile. You can also use the ‘offers’ filter on the right hand menu.

The site promises ‘exclusive savings’ however the offers listed don’t display marked down prices, so you can’t get a feel for the discount. It is also not clear if these offers are specific to vacation.com or available elsewhere.

Vacation.com does carry special offers but exactly how special they are is left unclear.

Are there online discounts and deals here? Does the site offer savings for returning customers? We graded the extra value you can get for your buck..

The detailed online vacation packages deals search tool is the main feature of this site.  The sheer amount of filters available is a great way to locate the holidays that best match your requirements.

On the downside, outside of the search tool, there is little on this site to inform, advice or interest; no articles, no forum, no photos, no video…. no extras at all.

This site is essentially a packaged search engine and doesn’t display a social side.

There is an FAQ to help you use the site effectively.  There is also a contact address and email form hidden away in About Us.  We would like to have seen a link to this displayed on the home page.

You can get trip information in US and Canadian dollars, Euros or Pounds Sterling.

Payments are not made via this site but through the individual travel agents.  However, when we clicked on ‘Contact Agent’ the link failed on several package holidays which is a real shame.  The site had done so well to whet our appetite and aid our selection.  If they fail to allow us to book then all that effort is to no avail.
