Camping.com says that they ‘exist to connect people to people, and people to experiences.’ All very admirable but how do these guys fare on the practicalities?

Making a booking online How easy is it to make a booking online or to amend an existing booking. How flexible are the search options? .

Phone number and email details are provided for each camp site. There is also the facility to book online using Visa or Mastercard. The process is short and painless.

Quality and quantity of images Are there enough images on the site to whet your appetite and are they of a decent quality? Are the photos too small? Do they give me a good idea of the resort inside and out?.

The navigation has a few sticking points. Firstly the Find a Campsite tool contains submenus with only one choice (why have one at all?) and the color dims when you make selections, as if the tool is struggling under the weight of your request.

When you arrive at the vacation resort listings, these are well ordered and contain tabs with different information.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

Camping.com provides helpful details on camping sites across the US, including photos and information on campsite amenities as well as local recreation activities. There is the facility for customer reviews but this was not widely used.

However, it has to be said that the information on some grounds is extremely limited with a few not even having photos. In these cases the site is hardly a selection aid or vehicle to inspire. The quality assurance on this site is a little patchy.

Help in finding what you want. With so many resorts to choose from, how does the site help you pick what is right for you? Are there any site favorites or recommendations? Does it offer any interesting activities?.

There are some lovely photos on the site but not all camp sites include these and others have poorly taken shots.

The site does not promote special deals at individual resorts. It seems to be up to individual sites to list these within their rates section.
